With nine solar light models in the Linkind lineup — spanning smart pathway lights, smart spotlights, and classic solar fixtures — choosing the right one for your yard can feel overwhelming. This guide puts every product side by side so you can match the right light to the right job, whether you're illuminating a walkway, uplighting trees, or throwing a backyard party.

⚡ Quick Summary

Need pathway lighting with decorative patterns?SP6 / SP6C

Need a smart spotlight for trees and walls?SL5C or SL6C

Need affordable, no-app-required lights?SP3, SP004, StarRay, or StarRayS

Understanding the Two Categories: Pathway Lights vs. Spotlights

Before diving into individual models, it helps to understand the fundamental difference between Linkind's two product categories — because each solves a different lighting problem.

Pathway Lights (SP6, SP6C, SP3)

Pathway lights are designed to cast light downward onto the ground, creating pools of illumination along walkways, driveways, and garden borders. They stake into the ground vertically and project a wide ~120° beam that covers a 4 ft (1.2 m) diameter circle on the surface below. The goal is even, ambient illumination that guides foot traffic and defines landscape edges.

Spotlights (SL5, SL5C, SL6C, SP004, StarRay, StarRayS)

Spotlights are aimed outward and upward — at trees, architectural features, walls, or garden focal points. They mount on the ground or on walls with adjustable angles (typically 360° horizontal, 180° vertical), producing a directed beam between 32° and 110° depending on the model. The goal is accent lighting that highlights specific elements of your landscape.

Best Solar Lights for Every Scenario

Common outdoor lighting needs — and the Linkind solar lights model that fits each one best.

🛤️
Walkway & Driveway
Even, downward illumination with a 4 ft diameter light pool. Stagger lights 7 ft apart for optimal coverage with minimal dark spots between pools of light.
SP6 / SP6C (smart) or SP3 (basic)
🌳
Tree Uplighting
Position 5–7 ft from the trunk. Small deciduous trees need a single 90° spot. Medium trees benefit from two cross-lights for even canopy coverage.
SL5C (smart) or StarRay (basic, 650 lm)
🏠
Wall Wash & Façade
Wide flood beams (82°–110°) wash light evenly across surfaces. The SL6C dual-ring lets you accent and flood simultaneously from one fixture.
SL6C (smart) or SP004 (basic, 800 lm)
🎉
Party & Holiday Decor
Music sync, color cycling, and preset holiday scenes turn your yard into an event space. Group up to 32 lights per zone for synchronized effects.
SP6 + SL5C combo (max impact)
🔒
Security Lighting
Motion-triggered illumination deters intruders and alerts you to activity. The SL5 activates instantly on detection and returns to standby automatically.
SL5 (motion sensor + smart)

Linkind SP6 vs. SP6C / Linkind SL5 vs. SL5C: Key Differences

SP6 vs. SP6C

The SP6 and SP6C share much of the same core technology: same 1.8W solar panel, same 1800mAh battery, same 4-LED RGBTW configuration, same 5 pattern lenses, and same AiDot app control. Both feature SolarDot™ technology with MPPT charging and 89.9% efficiency, delivering up to 14 hours of continuous illumination.

However, there are meaningful differences beyond just packaging. The SP6 supports app-based pattern switching and includes a USB-C backup charging port for reliable power during extended cloudy or winter periods. The SP6C does not include these features — it offers the same optical output and MPPT solar performance, but without the wired backup option or in-app lens pattern control.

USB-C Backup Charging

Lighting Patterns 5 5

If all-weather reliability and the ability to switch lens patterns via the app are priorities, the SP6 is the right choice. If you want the same core solar performance and smart lighting at a more accessible entry point, the SP6C delivers everything else.

SL5 vs. SL5C

The SL5C is the direct successor to the SL5 with meaningful upgrades:

Feature SL5 SL5C
MPPT Charging (23.5% more efficient)
Battery Standard 5C Automotive-grade
Waterproof IP65 IP67
Motion Sensor
Max Runtime Dusk to dawn Up to 14 hrs

The SL5C delivers more consistent brightness over longer periods, especially during winter and cloudy weather. The trade-off: the SL5C drops the motion sensor. If motion-triggered security lighting is a priority, the SL5 is the better choice. For all-weather reliability and longer runtimes, pick the SL5C.

Outdoor Solar Lights Installation & Spacing Guide

Proper placement makes the difference between a professional-looking installation and scattered lights.

Pathway Spacing
Each SP6/SP6C produces a 4 ft diameter pool of light. Space lights approximately 7 ft apart, alternating sides for a staggered look. The gap between light pools will be just over 2 ft on the near side of the walk and ~9 ft on the far side.
Spotlight Distance
For uplighting trees and structures, install spotlights 5–7 ft from the object. Aim the fixture to graze the trunk and focus on the canopy. Medium trees benefit from two cross-lights at 35° angles for concentrated canopy fill.
Solar Panel Orientation
Ensure no shadows fall on the panel during 10 AM–2 PM. In the Northern Hemisphere, tilt at an angle equal to your latitude (±5°). Charge new lights for 48 hours in direct sunlight before first use.

Customer Reviews: See What Our Customers Are Saying

"The Linkind SP6 lights are entirely self-contained and designed to be powered by the sun... Cast down, the lights create a circle four feet in diameter, so you can quickly cover a lot of ground with just a handful of units. The lights are bright, dramatic, and much more impressive than off-the-shelf hardware-store lighting."

"The SL5C is the world's first smart solar spotlight to incorporate MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology... This is a distinguisher from my previous vibe lights... The second thing I noticed is how powerful the spotlight is — many of my other attempts at vibery have gone awry because the lights are too subtle."

— Read the full expert review on CleanTechnica

"Solid solar spotlights with good durability... The build feels solid. The housing doesn't feel cheap, and they've already survived a couple of heavy storms without any issues. I also like that the solar panels tilt and swivel, so you can angle them to catch more sunlight."

FAQ

Which Linkind solar light is the brightest?

The SP004 at 800 lumens is the brightest, followed by the StarRay at 650 lumens. Among smart models, the SL5 and SL5C deliver approximately 120 lumens — designed for accent lighting rather than high-output flood illumination.

Can I mix different Linkind smart models in the same group?

Yes. The AiDot app allows you to group different smart models together within the same zone — for example, synchronizing SP6 pathway lights with SL5C spotlights for a unified lighting system across your entire yard.

Which models work best in winter or cloudy climates?

Models with MPPT technology — SP6, SP6C, SL5C, and SL6C — charge significantly more efficiently in low-light conditions. Among these, the SP6 and SL6C also include USB-C backup charging for extended overcast periods when solar alone isn't sufficient. The SP6C uses MPPT solar charging but does not have a USB-C backup port.

What's the difference between IP54, IP65, IP66, and IP67?

Higher numbers mean better protection. IP67 (SP6, SP6C, SL5C, SP004, StarRay, StarRayS) means the light can be temporarily submerged in water. IP66 (SL6C) resists powerful water jets. IP65 (SL5) handles rain and splashes. IP54 (SP3) protects against light splashing — adequate for typical conditions but not heavy storms.
